This piece explores the story of Lumi, a young girl who accidentally steps into a forbidden beam of experimental light that fractures her existence — splitting her body and soul apart. She becomes a ghost caught mid-transition, suspended between the living world and the spirit realm.

The artwork reflects that moment of transformation — her fading form, glowing eyes, and outreached hands symbolize her desperate attempt to reconnect with herself. The glowing hues and distortion represent the light that acted as both her destroyer and the bridge between realities.

This piece is a visual metaphor for isolation, identity, and the fragile boundary between two worlds — and the quiet, haunting beauty of being caught in between.

Technical Note

The character was modeled in VRoid Studio, where I customized the hair, expression, and outfit to reflect the emotional tone of the concept. The model was then imported into Unity, where I adjusted the material settings to add transparency, creating a ghost-like, ethereal appearance. Lighting and camera angles were carefully set up, and I used URP (Universal Render Pipeline) to apply effects like bloom and chromatic aberration, enhancing the feeling of soul-body separation.

Finally, I imported the rendered frame into Clip Studio Paint to add extra lighting and color effects for dramatic impact, emphasizing the split identity and liminal space the character exists in.

Concept Note – “Goddess of Justice”

This VR model represents a modern reinterpretation of the Greek goddess of justice — a celestial figure embodying fairness, balance, and divine law. Created for a client project, she is designed to serve as both an elegant avatar and a symbolic presence within virtual space.

Her white robe, laurels, and ornate cuffs reflect classical aesthetics associated with purity, wisdom, and authority. The confident pose and upward movement convey a sense of transcendence, placing her between the mortal world and the divine, where justice is not just human-made, but cosmic.

In the context of “A Bridge Between Two Worlds,” she stands as a guardian of equilibrium, connecting the physical and spiritual realms. She reminds us that justice exists beyond what we see — in values, beliefs, and the unseen order behind our world. As a VR model, she also bridges ancient mythology with modern digital expression, bringing timeless ideals into the immersive realities of today.

Technical Note

The base character was created in VRoid Studio, designed with soft, flowing features and a serene yet powerful expression to embody the Greek goddess of justice. The laurel crown was custom-modeled in Blender, then imported and positioned within Unity.

Inside Unity, I applied several effects to enhance her divine presence:

  • Bloom for a soft glow around the gold accessories and hair highlights

  • Depth of Field to subtly blur the background and draw focus to her face and posture

  • Color grading for warm lighting that evokes a celestial, heavenly ambiance

  • Soft shadows and light tilt to simulate a rising or floating effect, tying into her mythological identity

These visual choices reinforce her role as a symbolic figure bridging the mortal and divine, and bring a cinematic, ethereal quality to the final render.
